The origins of Elígnís trace back to 2009, when its Founder and CEO, Dr. Hussain Farooq, was completing a clinical internship at a leading orthodontic clinic in Lahore, Pakistan. A young patient nearing the completion of fixed orthodontic treatment requested early removal of her braces ahead of her wedding. One anterior tooth, however, still required alignment.

Lahore occupies a unique place in orthodontic history as the city where aligner design and treatment planning first began in 1999 for the world’s first aligner company. While clear aligners were being manufactured in Lahore for exports to the US, treatment remained expensive for most local patients. The clinic’s chief orthodontist improvised and collaborated with the laboratory to fabricate a modified clear retainer capable of delivering the final correction. In that moment, the concept that would later become Elígnís quietly took shape in the mind of the young Dr. Farooq.

Following his internship, Dr. Farooq joined his family’s dental supply business, where he led sales and marketing for esthetic ceramic and self-ligating brackets for the channel partner of 3M Unitek (now Solventum). Recognizing his product expertise and market insight, he was subsequently appointed Product Specialist for Camlog Implants (now BioHorizons Camlog) in Pakistan.

With firsthand experience across clinical practice, product strategy, and the dental supply chain—and exposure to Pakistan’s exceptional pool of aligner design and manufacturing talent—Dr. Farooq set out to build something different. He founded Elígnís to deliver enterprise-grade treatment planning intelligence and private-label aligner manufacturing. He brought together his orthodontic friends, fellow dentists, and some of the world’s most experienced aligner technicians, all based in his home city.
